Clay Howard Welding specializes in the construction of metal architectural fixtures, with an emphasis on clean lines and professional workmanship.

A lifelong resident of Santa Fe, Clay grew up in and around his dad's landscaping business experimenting with metalwork. His first foray into metal fabrication, as a freshman at Santa Fe High School, was a pig trough for 4-H club. Through his teen years, he cut his teeth creating sculptural, functional metalwork for homes in Santa Fe.

Following high school, Clay was awarded Best in Show at the Santa Fe County Fair for a coffee table he constructed out of steel and Mexican beach pebbles - this was perhaps the very beginning of CHW.

Having spent over a decade in the landscaping business, Clay developed an expert eye for integrating clean, modern form into the natural surroundings. He finds inspiration in contemporary architecture, intelligent use of light and space. His passion is custom metal furniture, though his gates, railings, and custom interior details are highly sought-after.

OUR WORKSPACE

Our full service shop is focused on delivering high quality residential and commercial steelwork to our clients in the Greater Santa Fe area and beyond.  We are comfortable working with architects and designers from their drawings, but we can also collaborate with individual clients and homeowners to develop their designs together.

CHW is set up to fabricate from any available metal, and we offer a wide variety of metal finishes.  While hard edged contemporary design is our main focus, we build within a wide variety of styles.  From initial prototype to completed project, we strive to deliver the highest quality work possible for our clients.
